The General Assistance Office of Springfield Township is located at 3298 Terminal Avenue, Springfield, Illinois.

Springfield Township offers a variety of assistance to the citizens of the township.  The office assists those in obtaining social security disability in the form of medical and financial assistance.  Medical evaluation is necessary for this assistance.  The Township is currently assisting 14 individuals with financial or medical grants.

The Township also participates in an Emergency Energy and Rent Assistance Program.  We work with local utilities to provide financial assistance to prevent interruptions of service to individuals during financial hardships.  The program also works with local landlords to prevent evictions by negotiating with the landlords and providing some additional financial assistance in making lease payments.  This program has assisted some 70 plus individuals of the township.

The Township offers further assistance through referrals to various other social service type agencies or organizations.

The General Assistance Office is currently administered by Cherril Graff.  Cherril was appointed to fill the position in January 2008, after the death of longtime dedicated Administrator Lillian Kunz.  She is assisted by Judy Smock.
